Summaries of first meeting.

1. In the first meeting, we've talked about setting our story around Norwegian in 1800 or 1900. Instead of drawing human characters, Cody suggested that we should make our characters trolls. At the beginning, the reel shows a truck driving by a happy Norwegian land which consists of farm mills and houses and everything that is happy. It isn't until the truck cross the bridge, we quickly drop the camera all the way to the bottom of the bridge and introduce our troll character which is about 6 inches tall. A pig in Daichi's ebook will now be a cockroach and instead of milking a cow, we would be milking a mouse or squirrel... not so sure if that would work yet. However, in our meetings we've thought of a whole bunch of ideas that a 6 inches troll would be able to live in and all of the fun little designs that we can make for his type of house. Instead of the wife going to farm, we were thinking that she would be jumping on the wind mills water wheel and go up on the bridge to look for mushrooms. We've also discussed that we can actually make a set of house using cardboards and other stuff we can find in recycled trashcans to display the troll house like how we did it in one of Barron's assignment.
Sorry to Hillary for turning this story this way but we want to design something different than current day time. However, all story decisions are still up to Hillary and she said that this could also be a fun idea as well (at least that's what I remember).

2. For the Vis Dev portion, we've looked at all the artists and narrowed down to three choices.
A. Frederick Rowland Emett, Group A
We've picked Emett because his style is more focussed on design and it is very simple line with small wash of color. It is also similar to the artists that were introduced in the Paranorman book and Hillary and I have that book and we've had great practice before looking at that style. We can actually get a lot of drawings done and learn a lot about design with his style.

B. William Health Robinson, group C
He also has simple lines but what we really liked about his style is that he would put small little construction parts into his interior house. Usually, he had a lot of strings added to his design in almost all of his drawings. We were thinking of using this string and random constructions to throw it inside the look of the troll house. Cody suggested that what if we use the string as an interactive thing for the ebook? like pulling the string down and things fall down. That would show how clumsy the husband is and exaggerated the causes that he did when his wife left.

C. Hendrik Drescher, Group E
We've chose him because of his color and how we can use his color for the troll story. It is also because he has some creepy feeling with the way he design.

So for Vis Dev, we've decided that all the vis dev artists would draw 10 drawings for each of the three artists of this troll story idea. So 30 drawings total using the three artists ideas and if you can go further and draw more, please do so. On the other hand, Cody brought in this design of the Sierra Nevada beer bottle and he was thinking that maybe we could somehow incorporated it in our design as well.

For VFX, Vince is currently researching on making our ebooks interactive. Like can we flip the ebook like a regular book? What about pulling that string and everything falls down using one finger sliding the screen or two, three like a Mac book or Apps game.

For animators, since you guys will have your own assignments, we were thinking if you guys can help with drawing out quick gestures of our characters going through the story so that the vis dev can refine the drawings and add colors into it.

Modeler will wait for characters or other props design from Vis Dev.

I will have to use emails to send you guys polls to vote on days that we can meet up for meetings and making other group decisions but I will only use emails for that reason.

Lastly, we should all look up on ebooks examples that are on the internet. I've saw some really amazing ideas of ebooks and it looked really fun.

Thank You All,

I will only summarize this first meeting and probably won't do it again in the future unless need be but I think it is a good idea to have our directions written down so that we have a place holder to look at when we can't seem to remember our main purpose.

Ohh and we need a new name for our group so if you have any throw it out.
